More Than Learning English: English Culture Festival 2026 Inspires Over 500 Thai Students Through Culture, Creativity, and Communication
Media Center FTIK - More than 500 students of Bukit Tamong School, Narathiwat, Southern Thailand, enthusiastically celebrated language, culture, and creativity during the English Culture Festival 2026, held under the theme “English Around the World: Exploring Cultures Through Language.” Organized by M. Ubaidillah Taqiudin Ilhaq, a Teaching Assistance (ASJAR) student from UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember, Indonesia, with the full support and collaboration of the teachers of Bukit Tamong School, the festival introduced an innovative approach to English learning that combined language education with cultural appreciation and joyful experiences.

Rather than focusing solely on grammar and vocabulary, the English Culture Festival was designed to help students experience English as a living language one that connects people, cultures, and ideas. The program aimed to improve students’ English-speaking skills, build confidence in communication, strengthen teamwork and leadership, broaden their understanding of different cultures, and cultivate respect for diversity through meaningful and engaging activities.

The festival officially began with an Opening Ceremony, followed by welcoming remarks from the Principal of Bukit Tamong School. The opening set an inspiring tone for a day dedicated to learning beyond the classroom, encouraging students to participate actively and confidently throughout every activity.

One of the festival’s most anticipated highlights was the English Cultural Fashion Show. Students were divided into country-themed groups, each representing a different nation, including Japan, China, England, Indonesia, and several others. Wearing traditional costumes, each group confidently introduced the customs, traditions, and cultural identities of their assigned country entirely in English.

The presentations went far beyond displaying traditional attire. Students performed cultural dances, role plays, and other artistic performances while explaining the significance of their country’s traditions in English. The activity transformed the school into a vibrant multicultural environment where language learning became an exciting journey of cultural exploration.

Following the cultural performances, students enjoyed a break before continuing with a series of Fun English Games, including the Sack Race and Hot Potato. Unlike conventional language activities, these games encouraged students to communicate, collaborate, solve challenges, and use English naturally in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

The interactive games reflected the core philosophy behind the festival that meaningful learning happens when students genuinely enjoy the learning process. By integrating English into exciting group activities, the program encouraged students to associate the language with confidence, friendship, and positive experiences rather than fear or pressure.

The festival concluded with an Awarding Ceremony, recognizing students’ creativity, teamwork, and outstanding performances, before ending with a Closing Ceremony that celebrated the success of the program.

The event received an overwhelmingly positive response from both students and teachers. Throughout the festival, students demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, confidence, and active participation. Many eagerly volunteered to speak English, collaborated with teammates, and showcased their creativity without hesitation. The joyful atmosphere reflected not only their excitement but also their growing confidence in using English as a tool for communication.

The head of general affair of Bukit Tamong School namely Miss yawahe cheama described the English Culture Festival as the first event of its kind ever organized at the school. According to the English teachers, previous English programs had mainly focused on classroom instruction, whereas this festival offered a completely different experience by combining language learning with cultural exploration, interactive performances, and enjoyable activities.

They also shared that the school principal greatly appreciated the initiative, and that many teachers expressed strong support for the program because of the positive impact it had on students and the school community.

One of the English teachers namely Miss Rohana shared:

“This festival is truly fantastic because it is the first event of its kind at our school. We have organized English Camps before, but they mainly focused on classroom learning. The English Culture Festival is different. It not only teaches English but also encourages students to enjoy the language, appreciate different cultures, and learn through meaningful and enjoyable experiences. I believe this program has made a significant positive impact on both our students and our school.”

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the festival, M. Ubaidillah Taqiudin Ilhaq explained that the event was built upon a simple yet powerful educational philosophy.

“People give their best to what they love. The same principle applies to learning. If students do not love English, they will never fully dedicate themselves to learning it. But once they discover the joy of the language, they will willingly invest their time, effort, and passion to improve. That belief became the foundation of the English Culture Festival. More than teaching vocabulary or grammar, this program was designed to help students fall in love with English through meaningful cultural experiences, interactive activities, and joyful learning. I also wanted them to discover the beauty of different cultures around the world while using English as a bridge for communication. My greatest hope is that this festival becomes the beginning of a lifelong passion for English among the students of Bukit Tamong School.”

He also expressed his appreciation to the school community while sharing his hopes for the future.

“Learning a language is not only about mastering vocabulary and grammar but also about opening our minds to understand people, cultures, and the world. I hope every student continues to be curious, courageous, and confident in using English every day. To all the teachers of Bukit Tamong School, thank you for your trust, collaboration, and unwavering support. Together, we can continue creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire students to dream bigger, embrace diversity, and become responsible global citizens.”

The success of the English Culture Festival 2026 demonstrated that language education can become far more meaningful when students are emotionally connected to the learning process. By integrating English with cultural appreciation, creativity, teamwork, and joyful experiences, the festival transformed the classroom into a place where students were encouraged not only to communicate but also to explore, collaborate, and grow.

More importantly, the festival carried a message that extended far beyond a single day of activities. It reminded students that learning is not driven merely by obligation but by passion. Students give their best to what they truly love. By helping students discover the joy of English through culture and meaningful experiences, the English Culture Festival planted the first seeds of a lifelong journey of learning—one that will continue to shape their confidence, broaden their perspectives, and prepare them to engage with an increasingly interconnected world.
